I have the author of an extraordinary book flying into Minneapolis today, to make a ‘two minute book film’. I’ve never made a ‘book film’ before. This is exciting.
And outside of the technical preparation, this is what I have in mind for psychological preparation;
*walking the dog around the lake, whilst talking about
everything & nothing in particular.
*dinner with the entire family. great food but no special behaviour included.
all under 6’s, and over 6’s, exactly as they are.
*encouragement to slide down the
fire pole that we installed in the kitchen. it runs eighteen feet to the basement and was installed ‘just because’. all
slidees get to sign the red padded walls.
floors also padded for safety reasons.
*first preview of a
brand new film to screen this coming monday. it started out life as a commissioned film. it’s for everyone who has/had parents and/or children.
i think it might make some shudder.
*drinking of
extraordinary coffee - Guatemalan naturally - with enough ’space’ to enjoy it.

The making of a film has always been about more than simply the time spent with the
red light flashing on the back of the camera
